Overdraft Privilege Plus Changes
Your Vermont Federal checking account has recently changed, which could affect how you are able to make purchases or ATM withdrawals using your debit card.
Now, unless you authorize Vermont Federal to pay overdrafts, we will not be able to pay a transaction that will result in your account reaching a negative balance. This change will affect your account when there is an overdraft caused by an ATM or everyday debit card transaction. No other transaction types are affected by this change.
What Happens When I Opt In?
- Vermont Federal can help authorize and pay ATM and everyday debit card transactions. However, a new federal regulation that went into effect on August 15, 2010, only allows us to provide this service to you if you Opt In.
- You must Opt In for Vermont Federal to provide overdraft privilege coverage* for your ATM and everyday debit card transactions.

What Happens When I Opt Out?
- Vermont Federal will not be able to provide overdraft privilege coverage* for ATM or everyday debit card transactions that would cause your account to reach a negative balance.
- This means that if you are at the gas pump or the grocery store ready to pay and your card is denied due to insufficient funds, we would be unable to assist you with the purchase at that time.
- If you would like to Opt Out click here.
Let Us Help You.
The new changes to Regulation E became effective August 15, 2010. If you would like Vermont Federal Credit Union to continue paying your ATM and everyday transactions using your debit card, please choose the Opt In option above.
All members who did not Opt In prior to August 15, 2010 were automatically Opted-Out and we will be required to decline overdraft transactions for ATM and everyday transactions using your debit card in the event that your balance goes negative. Members may choose to Opt In at any time by clicking the Opt In link, visiting a branch or by calling Vermont Federal.
