Student Scholarship Program

Vermont Federal Credit Union has been awarding scholarships to deserving students for nearly 20 years. Recipients are selected by a volunteer Scholarship Committee and are chosen based on academic achievement, leadership activities, service to the community, and responses to an essay question.

The Award

Vermont Federal Credit Union is offering five educational scholarships in the amount of $2,000 each for the 2024-2025 school year:

  • (2) $2,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors.
  • (3) $2,000 scholarships to those already enrolled in a college, trade school, or university or having been out of high school for more than one year.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply, the applicant must meet ALL of the following criteria:

  • Applicant must be a member of Vermont Federal Credit Union. If not, join by April 26th, 2024 to be eligible.
  • Applicant must be accepted to or enrolled in an accredited undergraduate program at a college, trade school, or university (minimum 12-credit semester or full-time equivalent)*
  • Studies must begin in the Fall of 2024 or Spring of 2025 semester
  • Immediate family members of Vermont Federal employees and Board members are not eligible

Entry Requirements

All applicants must submit the following by the April 26th deadline:

  • Completed Vermont Federal scholarship application - Applications must be submitted online
  • Copy of academic transcript(s) for all classes taken in grades 9-12 and/or (General Education Degree). Those who have already completed college, trade school, or university classes should also include those transcripts. Records should be completed through the last grading period.
  • Copy of the letter of acceptance from the college, trade school, or university. If college, trade school, or university is not determined at the time the application is due, the applicant must send all potential college, trade school, or university acceptance letters and notify Scholarship Coordinator as soon as the school is selected.*
 
*College, trade school, or university of choice does not have to be a Vermont institution

Schedule & Selection

The application must be completed with all supporting documentation and mailed to the Scholarship Committee by April 26th, 2024. Any packages postmarked with a date after April 26th, 2024 will NOT be considered. Vermont Federal Credit Union is not responsible for lost mail or delays in delivery of mail. Applications will be reviewed and finalists will be chosen by the Scholarship Committee. Winners will be notified by June 5th, 2024.

The recipient will receive an award certificate and check from Vermont Federal. Each award will be made payable to the student by August 6th, 2024. Funds are to be used for tuition, room, board, and/or books. The $2,000 will be returned should the student not attend school within the current academic year.

Additional Scholarship Partnerships

Through our partnership with Spectrum Youth and Family Services, we had the incredible opportunity to make a difference in the lives of at-risk youth. We awarded $8,000 in scholarships to the Spectrum team so they could help local youths achieve their dreams of attending higher education courses.
