Beware of Text Scams: Protect Your Card Details from Fraudsters

July 25, 2025 -

We have seen a rise in fraudulent text messages claiming there has been unexpected activity on member's accounts. In these scams, individuals are contacted and directed to click on a link or receive a phone call where they are asked to disclose their full debit or credit card numbers and PIN. In some cases, fraudsters ask members to assist them with Online Banking credentials or instruct members to move their funds to so-called “safe” locations, including platforms such as CashApp, Venmo, or through the purchase of gift cards.

Please keep your personal and banking information secure at all times and promptly report any suspicious requests to Vermont Federal so we can help protect you and our broader community. Phishing scams are often highly convincing, using realistic messages and official-looking logos to appear as though they come from a trusted business or financial institution. These scams may urge you to act quickly or share confidential information.

We will NEVER ask you to provide your complete debit or credit card numbers, PINs, Online or Mobile Banking credentials, one-time passwords, or request that you transfer funds to external payment services.

If you receive a call or text claiming to be Vermont Federal Credit Union that asks for any of the information listed above, DO NOT provide any information. Hang up and call us directly at 1-888-252-0202 to report it to our member service team.
