Vermont Federal Credit Union's Feed Your Neighbor and Feed a Family Campaigns Make Impact on Hunger in Vermont

January 3, 2024 -

South Burlington, VT – Vermont Federal Credit Union proudly announces the success of its dual initiatives: the 14th Annual Feed Your Neighbor Food Drive, which took place in November, and the 10th Annual Feed a Family Campaign, which happened in December.

The Feed Your Neighbor food drive, a collaborative effort with local radio stations 106.7 WIZN, 99.9 The BUZZ, Costco, and Hannaford, collected more than 4,000 meals to aid local residents in partnership with Feeding Chittenden and the Joint Council for Economic Opportunity.

The Feed a Family campaign, in collaboration with the Vermont Foodbank, gathered 2,306 pounds of food and over $1,400 in cash donations at its December 14 event at City Market in Burlington's South End.

Both food initiatives will impact families facing food insecurity this holiday season. Hunger is a pressing issue in Vermont, with recent statistics indicating that two in five people in Vermont have experienced food insecurity in the past year and a half, far higher than the 9.6% food insecurity rate Vermont saw before the COVID-19 pandemic (Source: Vermont Foodbank). In response, Vermont Federal Credit Union intensified its commitment to address hunger through these impactful campaigns.

"Vermont Federal Credit Union is immensely proud of the overwhelming response to our Feed Your Neighbor and Feed a Family initiatives," stated Jean Giard, President and CEO at Vermont Federal Credit Union. "The generosity exhibited by our employees, community, and partners highlights the power of collective action. Together, we are making a tangible difference in the lives of our neighbors facing hunger."

Vermont Federal Credit Union extends a heartfelt gratitude to all individuals, organizations, and partners who contributed to the success of the Feed a Neighbor campaign.
