South Burlington, VT — Vermont Federal Credit Union is thrilled to announce that it collected over 16 pallets of food totaling just under 9,000 lbs. at the Vermont Foodbank Day event held on August 29 at the Champlain Valley Fair. The event, sponsored and supported by Vermont Federal Credit Union since 2018, saw an increase in donations from fair attendees over last year.
Held annually, Vermont Foodbank Day brings the community together for a common cause. Attendees were encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to donate in exchange for admittance tickets to the fair.
In Vermont, 1 in 9 people face hunger, and 1 in 7 children face hunger (Source: Feeding America). Food insecurity has also been a leading concern for Vermonters as a result of this summer's and last summer’s devastating floods.
“Building strong communities and supporting organizations working to solve food insecurity is central to Vermont Federal Credit Union’s mission to uplift the lives of Vermonters. We are honored to be a part of positive change in our community,” said Peter Winch, Director of Marketing at Vermont Federal Credit Union.
Food donated at Vermont Foodbank Day has been sorted and redistributed throughout Vermont Foodbank’s statewide network of partners. The Vermont Foodbank is the largest anti-hunger organization in Vermont, providing food to over 280 food shelves, meal sites, senior centers, and afterschool programs in Vermont.
