South Burlington, VT — Vermont Federal Credit Union was awarded the Governor’s Excellence in Worksite Wellness Award. This marks the ninth consecutive year that Vermont Federal has received the award at the Gold level, the highest level of recognition.
Developed by the Vermont Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports in partnership with the Vermont Department of Health, the Worksite Wellness Award honors businesses and organizations that support the mental, physical, and emotional well-being of working Vermonters.
Vermont Federal demonstrates its unwavering commitment to employee wellness through a variety of engaging initiatives. Employees regularly participate in wellness challenges focused on initiatives such as walking and hydration to promote healthy lifestyle habits. The Credit Union also provides access to strength training, stretching and yoga sessions, nutrition classes, Community-Supported Agriculture (CSAs), and farm shares. Staff also benefit from an on-site gym, discounted gym memberships, on-site flu shots, CPR and first aid training, and local Employee Family Assistance Programs (EFAP). Emphasizing social and emotional well-being, Vermont Federal employees organize collaborative events such as hiking, berry picking, bowling, and mini golf through dedicated committee work. Additionally, an annual staff appreciation event brings everyone together to share a meal, fostering camaraderie and a sense of belonging.
Vermont Federal understands the significant impact that community involvement has on personal well-being. As part of their paid volunteer program, each staff member is granted 20 hours of paid time annually to contribute to local charitable organizations. Furthermore, Vermont Federal emphasizes professional development as a crucial component of holistic wellness strategy. Vermont Federal actively assists employees in advancing their careers by offering opportunities for training, job shadowing, mentorship, and tuition assistance.
“We not only want our employees to work here, but we also want them to thrive here,” said Amanda Reid, Vice President of Human Resources. “Providing employees with wellness programs supports the health of our employees, our organization, and our greater community.”
Employer focus on employee wellbeing is critically important: According to the latest Gallup poll, 34 percent of employees nationwide reported thriving in their lives in 2023, a decline from 2022, which was felt most by younger workers (under 35) whose percent fell from 35% to 31% (Source: Gallup). Meanwhile, studies show that workplace wellness programs can result in increased productivity (23%), reduced absenteeism (27%), and enhanced employee engagement (43%) (Source: randstad).
Earlier this year, Vermont Federal was also recognized as a 2024 Best Place to Work in Vermont by Vermont Business Magazine, further demonstrating its commitment to creating an exceptional work environment.
Vermont Federal is committed to delivering top-notch employee wellness programs by offering a comprehensive suite of traditional wellness initiatives, an extensive benefits package featuring paid parental leave, and a holistic approach to overall well-being.
